BEDCO

Business Plan Competition

In 2022, Makhala Henson achieved a significant milestone by winning a prestigious business plan competition organized by the Basotho Enterprise Development Corporation (BEDCO). Along with this recognition, she was awarded a seed grant of LSL100,000, a vital financial boost that played a pivotal role in the creation and early operations of Molhen Paper Solutions. This seed financing provided the foundation for the company, enabling it to take its first steps toward becoming a key player in Lesotho's sustainable packaging industry.
Under the guidance of 'M'e Thikhoi Phakisi and Ntate Libako Mohapi, who served as her technical coaches and Business Development Service Providers (BDSP), Makhala was able to transform her vision into a reality. Their mentorship was instrumental in helping her navigate the complexities of establishing a business, while also introducing her to the NUL Innovation Hub, where she gained further expertise. This network of support guided Makhala in the initial stages of production, where Molhen Paper Solutions began handcrafting eco-friendly paper bags—an essential first step towards fulfilling the company’s mission of reducing plastic waste.
The early success of Molhen Paper Solutions is a direct result of BEDCO's belief in fostering young entrepreneurs and its commitment to sustainable business development in Lesotho. With this backing, Makhala and her company are now positioned to lead the way in providing environmentally responsible packaging solutions, while also contributing to the local economy and setting an example for future generations of business leaders.
