Packaging is a broad and widely used product on a global scale. It covers various industries such as food, clothing, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and many more. But it can also be one of the major contributors to pollution and environmental degradation if not regulated correctly. One of the major contributors to Lesotho’s environmental issues is plastic packaging of which not even 50% of it is recycled. This leads to issues that affect Basotho’s livelihoods, health and other basic factors.

As MolHen Paper Solutions, we decided to address the plastic issue in our country by bringing in viable alternatives to plastic packaging as a way of addressing the problem. Our operations began in late 2023 with the manufacturing of eco-friendly paper bags which have since gained much attention among the small business owners around Maseru, Leribe, Mokhotlong, Mafeteng and Berea.

Lesotho is known for its rich and vast landscape and indigenous vegetation, fresh and abundant water sources and the regency that makes up the Basotho culture. These are all things that we need to protect and preserve, preventing the damage that has occurred in the capital city of Maseru to extend further into the other districts of the Kingdom in the Sky. Lesotho needs a shift in the packaging space to alleviate the burden that plastic waste has caused on the environment and to ensure the path to a greener and healthier Lesotho. By using MolHen Paper Solutions eco-friendly paper bags, we can work towards reducing the use of plastic bags and promote the circular economy through recycling.
